Collection: Watermelon

Designed by Phil Gray (Ts'msyen/Cree).

Artist statement: "Following the Six Day War in 1967, it became a crime to display the Palestinian flag in Israeli-controlled Gaza and the West Bank. It was even forbidden for artists to use the colours of the flag in their art. To circumvent the ban, Palestinians began using the watermelon because, when cut open, the fruit bears the national colours of the Palestinian flag - red, black, white, and green. It has since been a symbol for Palestinian resistance and solidarity."
