Collection: Kaffiyeh

Designed and made by Larissa Grieves Designs (Nisga’a/Métis/Cree/Blackfoot/mixed European)

Artist Statement: "Kaffiyeh - More than a traditional garment. As I made the first pair of these earrings I was thinking about the act of embroidery, sewing and beadwork. Pulling together. Making blankets, scarves and sashes. Amongst many Indigenous cultures - Blankets, sashes and scarves are a symbol of ancestral identification, protection, ceremony, laws and agreements, comfort and warmth, harvesting…

Stories and patterns are passed down from generation to generation.
But more I was thinking about the physical act of weaving bringing fibres, material, beads, hair or threads together. It made me think about being together, the importance of solidarity and the strength of a 1000 pieces of thread."
